A poet, musician, activist, professor, and member of the Mvskoke Nation, Harjo draws on Native American storytelling, histories, indigenous myths, and the natural world in her poems, combined with a commitment to feminist and social justice traditions. In 2019 she became the first Native American poet to be named U.S. Poet Laureate.
