A novelist, short story writer, poet, and filmmaker, Alexie grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington and wrote widely acclaimed books including the young adult novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. In 2018, multiple women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Alexie, which he acknowledged, apologizing for having “harmed other people”; in response, several institutions removed his name from awards and honors.
